Daring Bakers: Pizza Party

This month’s Daring Bakers challenge was chosen by Rosa, who writes one of the blogs I visit on almost a daily basis.

The recipe for October was for a two-day pizza dough.  Although I love my own pizza dough recipe that takes only about 30 minutes to create from assembling the ingredients to popping the pizza in the oven, I accepted this challenge with enthusiasm.  After all, that’s what being a Daring Baker is all about, right?

My pizza was topped with my own homemade pizza sauce (you can get the recipe on Charmian Christie’s Blog) and Oliver’s favourite topping combo: golden pineapple and bacon.

The resulting pizza made a good Sunday afternoon lunch but to be honest, I won’t use this crust recipe again. My own faster-to-make dough is  more delicious (or maybe just more familiar and therefore more accepted by my little family?).

What I will do is participate in next month’s Daring Bakers challenge and I will check out what all my fellow Daring Bakers from around the world thought of this recipe by visiting this website. I hope you will, too!

I love that combo..your pizza came out nice! I thought I would like my pizza crust better but this was so thin and crispy perfect that I think this one wins over mine.

  2. Your pizza looks really good . It was a good challenge. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog.

  3. Rosa says:

Your pizza looks absolutely scrumptious! Very well done!

    Cheers,

    Rosa

  4. I need to do a pizza crust one day – but I need to figure out what type of pizza I need to create. I’m loving your combo here though!

I agree, I don’t think I’ll use this crust again, I’ve got a recipe I use myself which I enjoy more. I like your choice of ‘classic’ pizza toppings, that’s the way I went as well. Now, how about a post about your favorite pizza dough?

  6. Angela says:

I won’t be using this crust again either, but it was fun to try it out. I might try leaving my current favourite crust to rest in the fridge overnight, though as I quite liked the flavour that produced. Your pizza does look gorgeous, though! Pineapple and bacon is so much better than just ham and pineapple!!

  7. Candace says:

I agree about the crust. I was pretty happy with the outcome, but I prefer to do it in one day. Your pizza looks delish… Pineapple and bacon are one of my fav pizza toppings!

  8. The pizza looks delicious. I love when the quick and easy version turns out to be better tasting!

I’ve heard of the Daring Bakers and finally checked out their site. I just might have to give their challenge a try!

Erik, my quick and easy pizza dough recipe is in my last book Dana’s Top Ten Table and at Charmian Christie’s blog. The link is above.

Darius, you can make a different pizza every time – no need to settle on just one!

  10. Candice says:

I’m happy to see the huge variety in pizza toppings for this month’s challenge! Yours looks delicious. The right fruit always seems to add something to pizza.

  11. I love, love, love the shape of your final pizza. So cute! I agree that a 2 day crust seemed a bit involved.

  15. Pat says:

    Hi Dana!
Your pizza looks fantastic! I rarely make pizza as I live in an area that has the very best pizzerias in the world, but it was fun to try this challenge for DB. Now I ahve more respect for how much skill it takes to toss dough in the air! 🙂

  18. Potato Chef says:

Of course pizza is one of my favorites. And yours looks great. I usually go for pineapple and pepperoni but I’m certainly willing to give bacon a try.

  24. Lesley says:

I’ve been waiting to see a ham or bacon and pineapple pizza. this is the first I’ve come across on this challenge! Great job, looks so good.

  25. Molly says:

The pizza looks delicious, but how did you toss it and get such a long oval?

  26. danamccauley says:

Molly, since you ask…the tossing didn’t go so well for me so I rolled my misshapen dough into a long thin pizza.

  27. Ah, the tossing was a challenge. But, I love the shape that you got. Interesting what you said about familiarity.

  28. Lorraine E says:

Your pizza looks great! I also love bacon (or ham) with pineapple. I think I’ll do one with my remaining dough🙂

  29. Maris says:

Your pineapple and ham/bacon pizza reminds me of high school – every time my girlfriends and I got together, you could count on pineapple pizza being involved. I bet the homemade version is way better than any I’ve had!
